Shri Vivek Bharadwaj, the Secretary of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, will open a two-day workshop in Goa about giving more powers and responsibilities to local Panchayats. This event, organized by the Indian Institute of Public Administration and the Ministry, is happening on January 24th and 25th, 2024.
The workshop will focus on a draft report by the IIPA, which looks at how much power and resources are being given to Panchayats across different Indian states. Officials from various state governments, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, and other important organizations will attend. They’ll discuss and give feedback on the report.
The study used 26 factors to measure how Panchayats are doing in terms of their duties, funds, staff, capacity building, and accountability. The final goal is to see how independent Panchayats are in making and carrying out decisions, and to rank the states based on this.
