In the Calcutta High Court, there’s a disagreement between two sets of judges. Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay ordered an investigation into alleged irregular admissions in West Bengal’s medical colleges. He doubted the state police’s effectiveness and chose the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the task.
However, a division bench with Justices Soumen Sen and Uday Kumar stopped this order. Justice Gangopadhyay then called their action illegal and accused Justice Sen of being biased and acting for a political party.
This issue has escalated to the Supreme Court. A five-judge bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, will hear the case. They will review the disagreement and the actions of both the single-judge and division benches of the Calcutta High Court.(from sources ).
