Nawaz Sharif claims victory in Pakistan’s general election 2024

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif claims victory in Pakistan’s general election 2024, with his party, the Pakistan Muslim League (N), emerging as the largest party in the country.

However, lacking a majority to form a government, they have invited opposition candidates to negotiate.

We don’t have the majority to form the government on our own. Therefore, we invite other parties to join in forming the government,” he said.

Discussions about forming a coalition government will involve Asif Ali Zardari of the Pakistan People’s Party and Maulana Fazlur Rehman of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), among others.

In Pakistan’s National Assembly, there are a total of 336 seats, with elections held for 265 seats.

The remaining seats are reserved.

For any party to form a government in Pakistan, they need to have a majority of 133 seats.
