NLC India Ltd, a big company under the Coal Ministry, has given a big project to BHEL to build a 2,400 MW (3 units of 800 MW each) thermal power plant in Jharsuguda, Odisha. They chose BHEL through a competitive process. This plant will use very efficient and eco-friendly technology.
The power from this plant will be shared by Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Kerala, and Puducherry, as agreements are already in place.
BHEL’s job is to design, make, deliver, and set up things like boilers, turbines, generators, and pollution control equipment for this plant.
The coal for the plant will come from the Talabira mines in Odisha, and water will come from the Hirakud Reservoir. The power will be distributed through the power network.
The plant will also have the latest equipment to control pollution, and the boilers can use biomass as fuel, which is a green initiative.
The first part of the plant should be ready by 2028-29. Since the plant is close to the coal source, the power will cost less, and NLC India will provide this cheaper power to the four states.
The contract scope includes engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection and commissioning of equipment such as boilers, turbine, generators, balance of plants, FGD and SCR for 3 X800 MW- 2400 MW Stage –I.
