India ranks 12th in the global power index

India, despite being the world’s fifth-largest economy and the fourth most powerful military, ranks 12th in the global power index according to the “US News and World Report.”

This puts India behind countries like Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Japan, France, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, China, and the United States.

The ranking considers various factors like leadership, economic influence, political influence, strong international alliances, and a strong military. India’s ranking is affected by its large population and low per capita income, making it one of the poorest countries based on income and gross national product per capita.

While India excels in areas like cultural influence, including its film industry and historical landmarks, its overall score has been declining in recent years.

India’s refusal to join regional economic groupings has affected its economic relationships score, despite performing well in diplomatic influence.

Another survey by Australia’s Lowy Institute ranks India fourth out of 26 Indo-Pacific nations for comprehensive power. However, India’s overall score has been decreasing since 2018, with improvements in diplomatic influence offset by declines in economic relationships and resilience.
