Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination for the Rajya Sabha

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination for the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Before filing the nomination, Sonia Gandhi met with all the opposition legislators in the assembly. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, and opposition leader Tikaram Jully were also present.

Sonia Gandhi’s decision to contest for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections was filed from Rajasthan. Sonia Gandhi has never been a member of the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh since 1977.

 

But why did Sonia Gandhi go to the Rajya Sabha? Does she have any strategy behind this?  Will this benefit the Congress?

 

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination on Wednesday. Before filing the nomination, Sonia Gandhi met with all the opposition legislators in the assembly. This time, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, and opposition leader Tikaram Jully were present. Congress currently has 70 legislators in the Rajasthan Assembly. Sonia Gandhi needs only 51 votes to win. Therefore, her victory is almost assured. For the Rajya Sabha, the BJP has given nominations to former MLAs Madan Rathore and Chunnilal Girsia from Rajasthan.

 

In 1999, Sonia Gandhi began her political career. In that year, after accepting the presidency of the Congress, Sonia Gandhi was elected as a special member for the first time.
