Amalner: A dialogue was held on the portrayal and status of the third-gender community in Marathi literature, organized by the Chief Electoral Officer’s office during the 97th All India Marathi Literary Conference.

The participants included Bindumadhav Khire, president of the LGBTQ community and founder of the Queer Rights Foundation; Shamim Shaikh, social activist from the transgender community; Vijaya Vasave, Punit Gouda, Daniella Macedonsa, and Shrikant Deshpande, the Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra.

 

The discussion highlighted the importance of depicting the third-gender community in Marathi literature, emphasizing the need for understanding gender, gender identity, and sexuality. Participants expressed the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community and stressed the significance of portraying their experiences in literature.

The dialogue aimed to address diverse perspectives and shed light on the social, cultural, and political aspects of the third-gender community in Maharashtra.
