New Delhi: The Central Government has announced the list of individuals selected for the Padma Awards on the eve of Republic Day this year, and among them are seven personalities from the sports world.
The most prominent name on the list, based on popularity, is Rohan Bopanna.
The 43-year-old Bopanna has been honored for his achievements on the tennis court.
The decision to confer this recognition on Bopanna comes in acknowledgment of his contributions to the sports arena. The Indian government has decided to award Bopanna with the Padma Shri, making him the fourth-highest civilian award recipient in the country.
Born on 4 March 1980, he is an Indian professional tennis player who specialises in doubles. He attained the world No. 1 ranking after winning his first major doubles title at the 2024 Australian Open with Matthew EbdenIn .
