The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri – Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has made 30 crore Ayushman health cards as of January 12, 2024. This government program, run by the National Health Authority (NHA), gives up to Rs. 5 lakhs per family each year for certain hospital treatments to 12 crore families in need.
Making Ayushman cards is a key part of the AB PM-JAY. The goal is for every eligible person to have one. Thanks to ongoing efforts, 30 crore cards have been made, with over 16.7 crore in the last two years. In the 2023-24 period alone, over 7.5 crore cards were created, which is about 181 cards every minute.
The creation of these cards was boosted by the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, which started on November 15, 2023. This campaign aimed to increase the reach of various government schemes. Over 2.43 crore Ayushman cards were made during this campaign. Additionally, more than 5.6 crore cards were created during the Ayushman Bhava campaign, started by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on September 17, 2023, to expand the coverage of health schemes.
The scheme has led to 6.2 crore free hospital admissions, saving over Rs. 1.25 lakh crore for poor and vulnerable people. People can easily make their Ayushman card using the mobile app, which has been downloaded 52 lakh times since its launch on September 13, 202
The National Health Authority (NHA) launched the ‘Ayushman App’ for easy creation of Ayushman Cards. The app allows users to make a card in four simple steps and can be used by anyone to help beneficiaries. It promotes community participation and has been downloaded over 52 lakh times since its launch on September 13, 2023.
Uttar Pradesh leads Indian states with 4.83 crore Ayushman Cards, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 3.78 crore, and Maharashtra with 2.39 crore. Eleven states have over 1 crore cardholders.
About 14.6 crore Ayushman cards have been issued to women, making up 49% of all beneficiaries, highlighting the scheme’s focus on gender and regional equality in healthcare access. Almost half of the treatments under the scheme have been used by women. The Ayushman Card represents equity and empowerment, ensuring protection for poor families against high medical costs. The Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme has facilitated 6.2 crore hospital admissions, saving families over Rs. 1.25 lakh crore in expenses.
