In response to the deteriorating air quality in Delhi-NCR, the Central government has mandated the cessation of non-essential construction activities and the operation of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers. Unfavorable weather conditions, such as fog and haze coupled with low wind speed, have been identified by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) as the primary factors behind the sudden escalation in Delhi’s daily average air quality index (AQI), a statutory body tasked with devising strategies to combat pollution in the area. Throughout the day, Delhi’s overall AQI has been steadily increasing, reaching 397 at 10 am and rising to 409 by 4 pm.
The central government has prohibited unnecessary construction activities and the operation of heavily polluting four-wheeled vehicles in the Delhi-NCR region due to air pollution concerns.
