The Ministry of Jal Shakti is holding an event (two-day event celebrating) to honor women who have made significant contributions to improving cleanliness in India. These women have worked on various parts of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM-G) like keeping areas free from open defecation, managing waste, and handling plastic waste. There will be discussions about the challenges in sanitation and how women are key to making changes.
On January 25, 2024, government ministers will speak with these women change makers. The next day, these women will join the 75th Republic Day parade, which has themes related to democracy and a developed India. They will also see two women-only groups from the Defence forces marching in the parade.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the SBM-G in 2014, leading to a big improvement in sanitation. As a result, over 500,000 villages in India have declared themselves free from open defecation as of January 1, 2024. Recognizing these women is meant to highlight their achievements and inspire others to work towards a completely clean India.
